Traffic and Safety

DESIGNATED DROP-OFF ZONES
Justice Street School has two designated areas for DROP-OFF ONLY: at the Strathern gate next to the two-story building and at the Sadring gate next to the entrance adjacent to the kindergarten classrooms. These zones are designated for loading and unloading of passengers only. You may not park (i.e., turn off the ignition and leave the car) in these areas before 9:00 am and after 1:30 pm, not even for a moment. See the posted signs for allowable times to park in these areas. Click here for a map showing the approximate locations of our drop-off zones.

CURB-SIDE ATTENDANTS
Our school is fortunate to have curb side attendants who volunteer their time to assist students getting out of cars during morning drop off. Please be considerate and polite to our parent volunteers. They are there to speed up the drop-off process and to make our school safer for our students.

MIND THE CONE ZONE
Whether or not curbside attendants are present, we will try to have cones out each morning to mark the designated drop-off zones. Please be mindful of the cones: do not get out of your car or park in the drop off areas.

PARKING LOTS ARE FOR STAFF PARKING ONLY
Justice Street School has three parking lots: one in front of the office, one behind the cafeteria, and one behind the YMCA trailer on Strathern Street. They are for staff and administrators and drivers with current handicap placards ONLY. It is against the state vehicle code to park there without permission, even for just a few minutes. Also, for the safety of all of our students, please DO NOT drop students off in the lots and do not walk through them to bring your children onto campus. Use the pedestrian gates on Justice Street, Sadring Avenue and Strathern Street to enter and leave campus.

DO NOT STOP IN THE BUS ZONE
The area along Justice Street from the curb at Sadring to the area in front of the marquee sign is a BUS ZONE. The signs clearly mark it as a NO-STOPPING zone. That means you may not even stop your car to unload passengers. And you may not park there, either, even after the bell rings.

LA CITY IS ENFORCING PARKING LAWS
Please be aware that LA City Traffic Department Officers will be enforcing the parking signs posted around campus and will be in the area periodically during the school year. VIOLATORS MAY BE VIDEOTAPED and if you receive a ticket on your car or a few days later in the mail, neither the school nor PTA can help you. So please be mindful of the posted signs and our requests so that all our children can be safe.

CROSSING GUARD
A crossing guard is stationed at Justice Street and Woodlake Avenue as follows:
7:30 am – 9:15 am
2:15 pm – 3:15 pm
(1:15 pm – 2:15 pm on Professional Development Tuesdays)

TAKE RESPONSIBILITY
Regardless of where the cones are placed on any given day, or if there is a parking valet to assist you, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to obey posted parking signs and traffic laws, and to respect the school’s safety requests and procedures. The administrators, staff and members of JSSPTA appreciate your cooperation.
