What JSSPTA Does

Justice Street School PTA (JSSPTA) is the name of the unit at our school. The primary purpose of JSSPTA is to provide supplementary educational experiences to the students of Justice Street Elementary School. We accomplish our goals by raising funds to pay for programs that benefit every child in the school, regardless of race, gender, socioeconomic status, or religion.

JSSPTA is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Donations to JSSPTA are tax deductible as permitted by law.

Some of the programs JSSPTA supports include:

Educational Assemblies – these change from year to year, but in the past have included assemblies which teach the students about whales and our oceans; Orville and Wilbur Wright and the invention of flight; magicians; birds of prey; skateboarding; art; music; professional soccer players; and more.

Educational Aides – In June 2011, JSSPTA pledged a gift to the school in excess of $20,000 to pay for three educational aides for the 2011-2012 academic year. These are teaching aides that the Los Angeles Unified School District otherwise would not pay for. These aides include a classroom aide, an intervention aide, and a technology center aide. These aides are vital to the continued success of the students of our school and we would be at a severe disadvantage if we were not able to continue making this pledge. JSSPTA has made this expenditure a priority for at least the past eight years.

Spelling Books and School Planners – JSSPTA pays for spelling books for our 2nd through 5th graders, and school planners for our upper grade students.

Physical Education Instruction – In response to a specific request by our faculty, JSSPTA pays for physical education instructors to organize weekly PE lessons for every student in the school.

School Yearbook – JSSPTA supplements the production of our annual yearbook.

Father-Daughter Dance/Mother-Son Bowling/Mother-Daughter Tea – JSSPTA sponsors these fun after-school activities for our students and parents to make special memories of their elementary school years.

Teacher Appreciation Activities – Every year, JSSPTA recognizes our teachers and staff with a luncheon. JSSPTA believes it is important to recognize the impact our teachers and staff have on our students.

Art Docent Program – JSSPTA recognizes that the arts are a vital component to every child’s education. So in 2007, JSSPTA initiated a successful Art Docent Program. The program is organized and staffed by parent volunteers and seeks to bring visual arts into each and every classroom with at least three dedicated art lessons each year.
